Welcome to Term 5 and 6 The Secrets of a Sun King 
This term, we will be reading the text, The Secrets of a Sun King, written by Emma Carroll. When a mysterious package arrives on Lillian Kaye’s doorstep in 1922, it sets her on a journey from the quiet streets of London to the blazing heat of Egypt. With a dangerous secret to protect and a promise to keep, Lil and her friends find themselves caught in a race against time, uncovering long-buried truths and unlocking the mysteries of the past. In Year 3, we will be using The Secrets of a Sun King to support and deepen our learning about Ancient Egypt. Our historical focus this term will explore the remarkable civilisation of the Ancient Egyptians, including the beliefs, achievements, and daily lives of people from this fascinating period. A key event in our learning will be Howard Carter’s discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb, which revealed a treasure trove of information about Egyptian life, beliefs about the afterlife, and the importance of pharaohs. We will examine how historians and archaeologists use evidence from the past, develop our chronological understanding, and compare Ancient Egypt with other periods we’ve studied. In Geography, we will explore the River Nile and how it influenced settlement, farming, and trade, making links to modern communities and how rivers continue to shape life today. Throughout the term, we will encourage pupils to think critically, ask questions about the past, and make connections between ancient and modern worlds – just like Lil, who uses her courage and curiosity to uncover the truth.
