Year 3
Welcome to Term 3 and 4 The Firework Maker's Daughter
This term, we will be reading the text, 'Stig of the Dump', written by Clive King. 'When Barney stumbles into a chalk pit, he finds more than he expected - an unusual friendship with Stig, a mysterious boy living in a den filled with curious treasures. Together, they embark on imaginative adventures, creating and solving problems using the things they find around them.' In Year 3, we will be using 'Stig of the Dump' to enrich our learning across various subjects. This term, our focus will be on the Stone Age to Bronze Age, exploring what life was like for people during these periods. Children will investigate how humans used tools and resources, learned to survive, and transitioned from hunter-gatherers to settlers. We will also look at the significance of archaeological sites like Stonehenge and how these structures were built. In Geography, we will develop our mapping skills, investigate land use, and explore how natural resources have shaped communities, linking to themes of sustainability and resourcefulness. Our learning will also involve comparisons between prehistoric life and modern life, examining how trade, tools, and farming shaped communities. This exciting journey will develop children's' critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills - just like Barney and Stig!
